Give me some sunshine!

Summer is by far my favorite season of the year. I absolutely love hot weather and can’t wait until I can wear shorts and tank tops and bask in the sun. I love that it gets light nice and early in the morning, encouraging me to actually get out of bed at a decent hour. My outside morning runs are perfect—no rain and not too cold. All of my vegetables are growing like crazy in the garden and each night we get to gobble them up for dinner. It’s great to be able to go down to the lake for a nice swim or a crazy day of wakeboarding.

Dog sweaters: don’t laugh!

October 28th, 2009

Some people buy clothing for their dogs as a fashion statement. For other people, it can be a necessity. Sometimes individuals buy dog sweaters to try to show off the personality of the pet with a preppy argyle or houndstooth or perhaps a lively striped or polka-dotted number. Around the Christmas season there are many kinds of christmas dog sweaters available that are indicative of the approaching holiday. For dogs that live in a colder climate, this can be a good thing. Some dogs really like to be warm and they will tolerate and even enjoy wearing a dog sweater. While various people laugh and make jokes about dogs and dog sweaters or other articles of pet clothing, it really is a personal choice as to whether or not to put ones dog in a sweater. When the temperatures drop in the wintertime and the dog still must go outside to do its bathroom business, it can be reassuring to know that the dog has an extra layer of warmth and protection from the cold weather.

Just Another Morning

October 26th, 2009

This morning I was awoken by Dusty (my cat) crawling onto my stomach and purring in my face. I drug myself out of bed, filled up his food dish and got dressed for my run. 30 minutes later I returned drenched in sweat and panting like crazy. I quickly jumped in the shower, got dressed and put my makeup on. I made myself a much needed cup of coffee and a delicious bowl of oatmeal. I sat down at the dining room table, checked my email and spent some time reading my Bible. Now it’s time to get started on laundry and some house cleaning to prepare for our houseguests this weekend.

Not a Kid Anymore

October 24th, 2009

When I was young, I used to have a lot of dreams, no matter how unrealistic they were, I still had them.  I wanted to be an astronaut, a scientist, a writer, an entrepreneur, an explorer, an adventurer, and a police officer.  Even after turning eighteen, I found myself saying, “When I grow up,” not realizing that I was already an adult.  My dreams haven’t died.  I still want to be a scientist even though I’m a writer which I’m very happy about.  In my heart, I know that most of all, I still want to be an explorer and an adventurer.  That’s what I want to spend my life doing, looking for adventure and exploring the world.  At least being a writer makes these two dreams more realistic.
