I have had dogs with me for 14 years. I am a true dog lover like millions of people. Like others I too have real fond memories of my lovely dogs -1 male, his name was Panda in literal sense due to his color and 1 female, her name was Misha. I used to love talking to them, pat them and they would sit on my lap for hours. I used to love shop for them and get a new dog collars every 4-6 months. Panda was very naughty and used to run out of the house to play, when caught he used to make such an innocent face that instead of getting mad I used to give him a big hug. Misha was very affectionate but did not like small kids. She was a one person dog – lucky me. Both the dogs never entered the dining hall when we were eating. I really miss my dogs as they are no more but I remember them fondly each passing day.

Dogs Collars
April 16th, 2010Einstein made me do it
April 15th, 2010I am a chemistry major but my favourite subject throughout high school and university has been physics. It has always been the subject that made the most sense and which be readily applied to everyday life. My life long infatuation with the life and work of Albert Einstein also probably has something to do with it. The theory of relativity, nuclear physics and the very simple Newtonian law that every action has an equal and opposite reaction appear make the universe less of a mystery. This was of course before I devoured a brief history of time and space by Stephen Hawkings which introduced me to the concepts of black holes and dark matter. The exciting, science fiction like possibilities of the universe and the world beyond have kept me enraptured and still relatively connected to Physics.

Of Jungles and Golf courses
April 12th, 2010Tiger, Tiger, burning bright….these words from William Blake’s well known poem immediately spring to mind if I start consider which is my favourite animals. Lithe, graceful, beautiful and deadly; the great cat which epitomises my country of origin, India, has enthralled and fascinated me since I watched Jungle Book as a wee lad. In that movie, Sher Khan was sophisticated, evil and British. And I was scared, very scared. However, in the years since, I have watched numerous documentaries, read a bunch of books and visited tiger cage at every zoo I visited. My fascination just grew. And then Tiger came along. I mean Woods of course. He roared like the great cat, moved lithely on the golf course and wore red when he was going for the kill. How could the tiger not be my favourite animal after all that?
The Indie Bug

My interest in indie artists and music began during my first year in university. My roommate who was probably the most atypical Jamaican one could find introduced me to great bands like Metric, Arctic monkeys, Postal Service, The Shins and others of their ilk. I was instantly hooked. This music seemed different, vibrant and eons removed from the sub standard junk that was being played on the radio. To keep in tune with the latest artists, albums and developments on the indie scene, I started visiting Pitchfork.com. Their album reviews are engrossing, entertaining, intellectual and no holds barred at the same time. It’s not often that a music website can send you scurrying to a dictionary. This one does. Their articles on music and pop culture have made me realise that one has to really dig beneath the surface for great music. It’s no wonder that Pitchfork has remained my favourite website for many years.
