Happy Birthday

May 17th, 2010

Last week was my husband’s birthday.  I was so excited, because he really wanted an iPod Touch, but they are insanely expensive, so he asked for a Dutch oven instead.  I found a gently used iPod Touch on ebay for $100, so I bought it for him.  He saw the charge and assumed it was for a Dutch oven.  I took my boys to the store with me to look at Dutch ovens and told them they were too expensive.  Predictably, my three-year-old promptly told my husband we had looked at pots for him.  This just further convinced my husband that I had bought him a Dutch oven on ebay.  I did end up getting him a Dutch oven, too, but I got an amazing deal on it so he never guessed.  When he finally opened his presents, he was absolutely speechless.  Needless to say, last week was pretty cool.

Dogs are a real fun type of pet to have

May 13th, 2010

They are friendly and they will keep you company. If you train them, they will do what you say. They are also fun to play with. You can take your dog to the park and teach them to play fetch. There are many people who teach their dogs to play Frisbee. As fun as dogs are, you do have to take care of them. A lot of store sells upscale dog supplies like dog foods, dog toys, leashes, and many other types of dog supplies. Dogs are a very good companion to have around. They are a favorite pet. Many people consider dogs like children. A dog will keep you from feeling lonely most of the time.

G’Day Mate

The most expensive thing I have ever bought was a trip to Australia.  My husband and I had both had a life-long dream to go to Australia.  We were living in Japan and decided that we would most likely never live any closer, so we decided to go.  We booked the trip through a travel agent, packed up our eight-month-old son, and headed down under.  We stayed in Sidney, but we explored the southern coastal region, as well as Hunter Valley and the Blue Mountains.  We toured the Sidney Opera House, and our guide sang an aria for us to hear how amazing the acoustics are.  We also visited two wild animal parks and got to feed and pet kangaroos, wallabies, and koalas.  It was the trip of a lifetime and the best money we ever spent.

Nissan Leaf

May 9th, 2010

They are not on the market yet, but I would love to get a Nissan Leaf when they are available.  It is an all-electric car, with zero emissions.  It does not even have a tailpipe!  There is also no belt system and no oil.  I want the car because it is better for the environment and because I think it would be an easy car to own:  no more oil changes, no more belts to replace.  You can drive one hundred miles on a charge and even get solar panels on the roof.  The website advertises that you can “fill up” for three dollars.  The only downside to the Leaf is that you would either have to have another car for any long road trips, or you would have to rent a car, since 100 miles would not take you very far, but I think that is a pretty small problem compared to all of the benefits.
